Cleveland enables renewable energy projects
Statement of Our CPP, February 2026
On December 1, 2025, Cleveland City Council passed Ordinance No. 1494-2025 to authorize the Division of Cleveland Public Power (CPP) to enter into contracts to design, build, and accept funding for local renewable power projects. Such projects could include solar, wind, and battery improvements — and could include the development of publicly owned community-scale solar in Cleveland.
Our CPP commends the city for adopting this policy, as it could increase the energy CPP receives from renewable energy sources and is an important step toward meeting the goals of the city’s Climate Action Plan. We encourage the city to continue to take steps to ensure that the energy CPP receives and distributes is clean, reliable, and affordable for all residents.
Our CPP is a coalition of residents, organizations, and technical experts dedicated to supporting CPP innovation and incorporation of model municipal utility practices that enhance community-driven, affordable, reliable, and clean and green service.
